| Will my medical history affect my life insurance premium? |
Yes it will.
When an Life company decides how much to charge you, it works out the statistical chances of you dieing within the term of the proposed policy. With Critical Illness Insurance, they will also need to assess the likelihood of you becoming seriously ill during the policy’s term.
The Life Company will look at many factors including your age, whether you smoke, your current occupation and your health record. If your health record indicates potential health problems, or you need an especially high level of Life or Critical illness cover, the insurance company is likely to request additional information about your health.
To obtain this information the Life Company may decide, to write to your GP for additional information or to ask you to attend a quick “mini-medical” (Also know as a mini-screening) or even a full medical. The insurance company picks up all the costs of all medical reports.
